A classic northern-circuit safari through baobab country, the Serengeti plains, and the vast Ngorongoro caldera.
This is the Tanzania journey we would choose for a first safari when wildlife variety matters more than collecting destinations. Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro each contribute a distinct landscape and pace, so the route never feels repetitive.

Arrive via Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to a lodge in the Kilimanjaro or Arusha region. The first evening is intentionally relaxed, providing time to recover from your journey and prepare for the safari ahead.

Travel into Tarangire National Park, renowned for its iconic baobab trees, elephant herds, and river-based wildlife. Begin wildlife viewing along wooded areas and open savannah, with lunch and afternoon exploration adapted to animal movement. Overnight in or near the park.

Continue to Lake Manyara National Park at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Explore groundwater forests, floodplains, and soda lake habitats in search of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, primates, hippos, and seasonal flamingos. The compact park provides a strong change of scenery before the Serengeti.

Travel or fly into the Serengeti as the landscape opens into vast grasslands and wide horizons. Begin with an afternoon game drive en route to your camp. The sector is determined by the season, current wildlife movement, and lodge style.

Spend a full day on safari in the Serengeti. Morning and afternoon drives allow you to follow predators, observe herds, and venture beyond the most obvious viewpoints. Optional activities include a balloon safari or private vehicle hire for added flexibility.

Enjoy a final game drive in the Serengeti before continuing toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive in the highlands and settle into a lodge near the crater rim or in the surrounding landscape. Cooler air and dramatic vistas provide a quiet transition from the savannah.

Descend early into Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the day exploring its rich mosaic of grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, and lakes, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Return to the highlands in the afternoon for a final safari evening.

Travel back toward Arusha or Kilimanjaro for your onward flight. You may continue to Zanzibar for a beach extension or connect to Rwanda for gorilla trekking, subject to available flights.
